Pop up shops

Within the past couple years two former classmates from my high school have started up a clothing line in NYC. The clothing line is called Ethik and is still in the early stages of becoming successful but they are well on their way in marketing the company. So far they are on twitter and Facebook and have made most of their money through their website. Besides social marketing they have entered the market through opening pop up shops where you can rent out a empty store and sell your products for a day or a week depending on how long you want your pop up shop to last. Ethik has some cool clothing that you can check out here at http://ethikny.com/.

Usually when I see movie commercials for the first time I will pay attention and give my full focus. When it comes to be the second, third or more times that the commercial is played I begin to lose interest. If its a comedy I am hesitant to see it in theaters because they always show the funniest parts. Act of Valor has been advertising for the last couple weeks on television and I have been excited to watch the same preview over and over again. They use highly realistic scenes as if out of a documentary and let the viewers know that these are active serving navy seals displaying procedures they practice on the norm. The last movie I was this excited to see was The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo because I have read the book. Navy seals have been a hot topic since seal team 6 was able to get Osama Bin Laden, so its not surprising they have finally come out with a movie depicting exactly what the seals are all about. I expect the movie to get good reviews and high box office sales with their prime timing and encouraging advertisement.

A newer and less known about social networking site called foursquare has recently caught my attention. A lot of people either don't use it or are uninterested in it because its another form like twitter and facebook that some people might feel gives too much information out. Foursquare lets people know where you are and what you are probably doing because of your location. I have my pros and cons for it and heres what I think.
Pros, If you check in to a restaurant or bar with a special on foursquare you can get discounts and save money. Entertaining to see where your friends are every so often. Now for my cons, way too much information is going out if you are letting everyone know where you are and when. People just don't care enough in my opinion to want to sign up just to see where people are. That is where the discounts come into play, once I heard about the discounts I was much more interested in checking in to places on foursquare because who doesn't want to save some dollars to market your current destination by just checking in through a simple process. Anyone else used foursquare before?

Blog and LinkedIN

This class is becoming more useful by the day. I was reading the main headlines on aol and found the article of how job searching is quickly changing from simple resumes. In this article they talk about how post recession job seekers are better off with a linkedin and possible Blog. I think most people know about Linkedin and if you don't I would create one, but I wasn't completely aware until this class and reading this site that employers also take in to account your blog. Networking is also a large emphasis in this article and although facebook is the largest networking social media site, Linkedin is the networking site that associates jobs and backrounds and a lot less personal traits. Check it out.
